Join us during SEEN Lewisham Festival week throughout 3-12 October to view our Bun n Cheese exhibition in the Broadway Gallery space.

This exhibition is presented by ASKI and Dr Michael McMillan.

You can find the Gallery next to our Studio Theatre.

Bun n Cheese: Things That Bring Me Joy is an exhibition that culminated from a series of three hour long oral history based workshops that took place in Wallington Library, Sutton, over four weeks with a group of black elders of Caribbean heritage.

Workshop participants included: Beverley Dixon, her husband, Ludlow, Carole Young, Elsie Henderson, Emerald Davis, Heather Davi, Marie Brown, Marie Wray-Williams, and Joseph Jeffers.

"Their stories speak to the Caribbean diaspora, indeed global Africa: growing and schooled as colonial subjects, willing to fight and die for the Empire, dreams of travelling abroad, the journey as an immigrant and the trauma of arrival, the transactional nature of the barrel culture, being born in a post imperial Britain, being black British, returning back home to find home, and how we cook, speak and dance." Dr Michael McMillan

"By bringing together older black and brown individuals, I strive to crate a nurturing and inclusive environment where every voice is cherished" Joseph Jeffers, CEO of ASKI
