Our approach to Donations and Sponsorship
Funding and community support
Broadway is a publicly funded theatre owned and operated by Lewisham Council. Broadway is not a statutory service and is supported by donations, sponsorship and grant funding.
This funding helps us to provide career development support for local artists and creatives, deliver the SEEN Lewisham festival, keep our ticket prices low and our venue inclusive.
Our commitment to fundraising standards
We are committed to fundraising best practice. We are registered with the Fundraising Regulator and operate within the Regulator’s key principles and behaviors: to be legal, open, honest and respectful.
We work to comply with relevant regulations, including the Proceeds of Crime Act, Data Protection, Tax and Gift Aid legislation, and Charity Commission guidance, as well as Lewisham Council’s corporate policies, such as Anti-Fraud and Corruption.
Monitoring donations
Broadway and Council officers monitor potential donations and corporate partnerships for compliance and risk. Final decisions may be escalated to the Council’s executive leadership.
It is our legal obligation to act in the best long-term interest of the venue when deciding to accept or refuse voluntary contributions. Gifts may be refused if it can reasonably be concluded that acceptance would be more likely to be harmful to the organisation than refusal.
